Garages can truly be a pain; not only are they generally dirty, but they become a place where many of us put things that have no other place. For many of us, our garage is a place of disarray, one that we constantly promise ourselves that we’re going to organize… one day. However, there are products out there to help those of us with unorganized garages, like those featured on storeitwell.com. These products will help everyone from those who have project cars to multiple-car households get organized and stay organized.

The Benefits of a Rolled Garage Floor
Before the benefits of a rolled garage floor are introduced, what exactly is it? Rolled garage flooring is an easy and relatively inexpensive alternative to redoing a garage floor. Similar to the concept of carpet, someone who buys a rolled garage floor will roll out the material, generally polyvinyl or rubber, and fit it to their garage by cutting off the excess.

The benefits of such floors are numerous. First, the floor will make your garage look like new. Second, cleaning is not only simple but convenient because the floor is portable and made of materials that don’t absorb oil, grease, and dirt stains. This means no more scrubbing oil stains, or hiring people to strip and repaint your concrete only to have to have the process done again a few years later. Third, in comparison to concrete floors which are slippery when wet, the rubber and polyvinyl materials provide buyers with the safety of no-slip floors. Fourth, they’re better for your body because they generally have more padding than concrete; this is especially true for those who constantly spend time working in their garage. Concrete flooring is terrible for our joints because there is no give; but because rolled garage flooring is padded, it provides our feet, back, and spine joints with much needed cushioning when walking around the garage. Fifth, these floors protect your concrete floors beneath; which means they will save you money in the long-run on expensive repairs.

Organizational Storage
No one wants their garage to look like the picture on the left. And let’s face it, that really isn’t that bad; that’s a pretty organized unorganized garage. There’s nothing like enclosed cabinets to help you get your entire garage’s contents organized. The benefits of utilizing cabinets are pretty intuitive. First, they help you not only get organized, but stay organized. Second, your belonging will be out of sight, so your garage will look neat and you will have more space to do the activities you need to. Third, they also help you keep your tools and other belongings safe from getting damaged or causing damage; there’s nothing worse than a heavy tool falling on a car. Fourth, they allow you to store harmful chemicals safe out of the reach of children and pets. Fifth, many times people have so much clutter in their garage that they cannot even store the very thing their garage was designed to store: Their car! Garage cabinets allow you to make space to safely store your vehicle.

Allison Dean jumped at the chance to bring us a guest post about how to get your garage organized permanently. A blogger and writer who saw the need for an educational resource that laypersons could depend on when they had legal problems, Allison spends her professional life writing about medical malpractice lawyers.

Are you looking to transform your cracked and stained garage floor into a showroom? If so, look no further than Better Life Technology’s roll-out floor protector.

These unique mats help prevent floor damage and reduce the amount of dirt tracked into your home. They are simple to install, leaving your garage looking like new.

Before installing these mats, be sure the garage is swept clean of any debris. If there are any grease or oil stains on the flooring, be sure they are wiped up before unrolling the mats. We chose the black diamond tread, which came in two rolls for each garage space. There are a variety of surface options available, including rib/channel, coin, smooth levant and diamond tread.

Simply start unrolling the mats at the garage entrance and end at the rear of the bay. If you find there are some curl marks, just take a broom and roll over to push the air out. What makes this flooring so appealing is its ability to be easily cut into the exact size and shape to perfectly fit any garage interior. Trimming the product is very simple. The most important thing to consider before cutting the mat is to be sure the product is entirely laid out flat to avoid an uneven cut.

The flooring is easy to clean and impervious to oil and other fluids that leak from our cars. Just mix a solution of soap and water and wash the flooring either inside or outside of the garage. While some people prefer to take the mats out of the garage in the warmer weather, it’s just as easy to keep them inside and use a normal household mop.

Most people have come to prefer the G-Floor over coating systems due to its ease of installation and durability. It is also preferred over snap together systems because of cost and unlike the alternatives, it can prevent water and dirt from migrating all over the garage.

G-Floor was developed by Brett Sneed, chief executive officer and co-founder of Better Life Technology. “Good floor covering improves the look, shields the floor, and increases the value of any room it is in,” he said. “Just roll it out and trim the edges; what could be simpler than that.” The flooring came as a result of his search for a better solution to cover his garage floor and keep from tracking dirt and liquids from his garage into the house. He wanted a product that could transform the look, be easily put down and cover the garage floor in seconds. He was also looking for something simple to install, looks great and would last for years.

After finding nothing that met his needs, Sneed and his father developed, manufactured and brought to market a specially formulated 10-foot wide, roll out polyvinyl pad that covered the garage floor in minutes.

Better Life Technology makes many different floor coverings for a variety of applications including trailer floors, kennel liners, motorcycle mats and even an anti-fatigue mat. The RaceDay peel and stick tile offers an easy install and custom fit look while hiding cracks and stains. Each mat also comes with a five-year warranty, which is no wonder the company’s G-Floor product has become the number one selling garage floor protection system in the United States.

There are options available to make the perfect garage floor to meet anyone’s taste. Generally the two best options are rolled garage flooring and garage floor tiles. Deciding which type of floor is a matter of preference and cost.

The lowest price flooring is rolled. This type of garage flooring is also the easiest type of floor to install. Simply roll the floor out and trim around any obstructions. The seems can be taped together or left floating.

The other type of flooring is garage floor tiles. This type of floor is more expensive and takes a little more time to install. In many opinions, it provides the homeowner with the best looking floor. There are two type of garage floor tiles, peel and stick and interlocking garage floor tiles. Peel and stick tiles use a strong adhesive to remain in place. Interlocking tiles are a floating system in which each tile locks into the other creating a grid that stays nicely in place.

Tools needed: Utility knife, straight edge, and something to mark floor.
Prep & Installation Instructions

(1) How much tile will you need? We recommend that you purchase about 10% more tile than your project will require. This will allow you to cover mistakes, trimming and for future possible damage.

(2) Clean Floor: Clean sub floor free of grease, wax, dirt, oil, foreign matter and any chemicals that may be present. Make sure subfloor is smooth and fill in areas if needed.

(3) Preparation of Sub Floor: Concrete must be fully cured (about 28 days or longer after pouring), free of moisture and alkalinity. Make standard moisture and alkalinity test if necessary. Moisture and alkali will not hurt or damage the RaceDay tile, but it can damage the adhesive and cause it to break down over time. Note: It is the responsibility of the installer or flooring contractor to determine the dryness of all concrete subfloors before installation of floor tiles begins. On grade concrete subfloors must contain an effective, permanent moisture barrier (floor primer or basement proofer). Plywood/solid wood subfloors should be dry and fully cured. It is also recommended to use a primer on wood subfloors for better bond. The primer prevents the adhesive from being absorbed into the concrete or wood surface. Failure to use primer over concrete voids warranty. All holes, cracks, and depressions must be filled with a latex underlayment and any cracks and depressions must be eliminated. Dust should be removed with a vacuum or damp mop and dried immediately before applying peal and stick tile.

(4) Layout of Room: Lay out some unpeeled tile on floor to see how your pattern and placement will look before actually applying tile. It is recommended to always start from a square point and work out. Treat room as a rectangle and find the center points of two end walls. Mark floor to insure square point and make a guideline with pencil, ink, laser or light chalk line for your first row of tile then entire grid if desired (if using a chalk line make sure you do not have excessive chalk on floor, it can prevent adhesive from sticking).

(5) Laying Tile: Make sure all tile has been stored at room temperature of at least 65 degrees Fahrenheit for a period of 48 hours. Do not install tile in conditions less than 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Always start from center and work out. Peel off release paper and place tile edge flush with marking line and slowly lower remainder of tile onto floor in a bent fashion as if you were unrolling a mat. This will keep air out and assure an even stick. Tile can be peeled back up and repositioned if required.

(6) Boarder Tile: Do not peel off paper from back before you make your cuts. Turn tile over and place loose tile over last row so that one end of loose tile is touching the wall. Then mark paper of loose tile with pencil and cut with knife. Then peel off back of fitted tile, turn over and put in place. When fitting around obstacles make pattern on paper and draw an outline on the back of tile paper to cut shape.

(7) For best results, be sure to roll your floor in both directions after installation to make sure all air bubbles are out and adhesive touches the subfloor.

A standard garage floor usually is just plain concrete, and this is fine for most folks. But if the dust and dirt bothers you, or you don’t like the look of it, you might want to upgrade yours. Here are some super ideas that might be worth a try.

Thoroughly clean the floor before doing anything else. You can use whatever cleaners you need to, but make sure it’s very clean and free of grease before continuing. Then measure the area so you will know exactly how large it is when you go to purchase materials.

You can paint it, and this will give it a clean look as well as preventing the constant dusting that comes from concrete. It also will make it less likely to absorb future stains. Use an epoxy paint that is made for garage floors. This paint is very tough and can stand up to the heat of your car tires, as well as most automotive and shop chemicals. You can get your paint ready-mixed or even custom tinted in a variety of colors. Read and follow the package directions for the best results. Don’t forget the prep, as it is very important.

You can buy roll flooring for garages, too. It is easy to install and comes in a variety of colors as well. You can place mats under the cars or do the whole garage floor. Some even collect fluids that might leak or drip onto your floor from your car, preventing messes. It is also a good solution for a cracked or stained floor.

Plastic and rubber flooring tiles are another good flooring material. These are very strong and last a long time and, because they are tiles, if one becomes damaged or stained, it easily can be replaced. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, too.

You can decide which system will work best for you. Check paint stores, auto-supply dealers or online sources for these products and more. This upgrade can even add some real value to your property if done right.
